Prevention Person of The Year Award

Prevention Partnership is celebrating sixteen years of service to the community in providing comprehensive, culturally diverse prevention and education services in areas such as alcohol and other drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, anger management, violence, and peer leadership. In carrying out such activities, it functions as a catalyst and management agent for the community, by facilitating a needs assessment and action planning process.

SALUTING PEOPLE MAKING A BETTER CHICAGO

Each year Prevention Partnership, Inc., salutes those special people whose actions have made Chicago safer, healthier and in other ways, a better place. On its sixteenth anniversary, Prevention Partnership will salute one of Chicago's finest, and a few other very special people.

• Our police are often referred to as "Chicago's finest," and this year we salute as Chicago's Prevention Person of 2003 none finer than recently appointed First Deputy Superintendent of Police Dana Starks (left). He has served the people of Chicago for twenty-five years to make Chicago safe. There is no doubt that a safe city is a healthy city!

We also salute:

• Reverend Vance T. Henry (right) was appointed by Mayor Richard M. Daley as Executive Director for the City of Chicago's CAPS Implementation office. In this capacity, he coordinates the city's marketing campaign, which is designed to increase awareness of and stimulate greater participation in CAPS.
• Unita M. Sims (left) is Vice President of the Community Economics Development Association (CEDA) Children Services. Ms. Sims has an impressive career history in Head Start. She served more than 16 years in various capacities ranging from local staff, consultant to senior management. Ms. Unita M. Sims professional philosophy is to create an atmosphere in which children, family, and staff can fulfill their greatest potential. She has always shown a passion for serving children, family, staff, and the greater community at large.
